The block of flats, as we know it today, is one of the greatest innovations that modern architecture has given us. Le Corbusier’s Unitéd’Habitation, the Narkomfin building by Moisei Ginzburg and Ignati Milinis, and the Casa Bloc by Josep LluísSert, Joan Baptista Subirana, and Josep Torres Clavé are examples of some of the innovative ideas introduced by the Modern Movement. Concepts that are now part of our vocabulary, like collaborative spaces, flexibility, sustainability, social housing, etc., originatedwith the proposals introduced by architectural modernity in the 20th century.

These are the premises of the call for papers for issue number 3 of the Revista de ArquitecturasModernas Docomomo Ibérico (RAM Docomomo Ibérico).

DEADLINES

The deadline for receiving proposals is June 30, 2025.

The current view of the architecture of the modern movement that we propose in this new issue of Ram must be approached from different perspectives. We suggest the following:

• How valid are the fundamental principles of the modern movement today?
• How is the influence of the modern movement evident in the architecture of the last 50 years?
• How can the architectures of the modern movement be adapted to current normative standards, which are much more demanding than those that saw the beginnings of these architectures?
• What are the heritage values of these architectures from a current perspective?
• What should be the legal and regulatory tools that guarantee an adequate conservation of modern movement architecture?
• What intervention, reuse, or conservation actions in buildings of the modern movement have delved into these issues and should be highlighted?
• What role do these architectures play in today's visual arts and how do they contribute to their dissemination?

With these premises,we launch the call for articles in issue 2 of the "Revista de ArquitecturasModernasDocomomo Ibérico (RAM)".

From our beginning, we want to remember and revalue the figure of those masters who designed great examples of the architecture of the modern movement in the Iberian Peninsula. His teachings are stil lrelevant, but, in our opinion, his works, both completed and projected, have not always been as widely recognized as they deserve to be.

It seems necessary to settle this debt since their legacy is an indissoluble part of the image of our cities and territories, remaining fully valid in today's society. Reasons enough to dedicate our first issue, MODERN MASTERS: LEGACY AND VALIDITY, to their works and the ideas that supported them.
