Abstract

As has been shown since the beginning of the intervention, either restoration or rehabilitation of the modern movement in buildings with Architectural values with enough importance, raised all kinds of difficulties, often insurmountable. This thesis is justified for having as main objective precisely contribute to the knowledge of the constructive and functional solutions by providing specific data to enhance quantitative and qualitative value to the envelope of the buildings of the modern movement in general and particularly of Barcelona, and to provide a framework of pre-intervention to facilitate overcoming those difficulties. lt is very important to make clear at the outset that the actual energy performance of buildings can not be inferred solely from the parameter thermal of the thermal transmittance of the envelope, it’s necessary to consider all of the building resources, those that are part of the initial design as intended to be according to specific climate in such a time where access to energy was difficult. The numerical investigation shows that, despite the quantification of expected transmittance values should reflect numerically higher values. the actual behavior of the studied buildings can maintain interior thermal comfort against outside variable conditions. This dissertation provides sufficient data on three key aspects: one, the actual performance of the building according how it was build, assuming no changes have been made throughout the years, in second point which are !he specifici difficulties in this monitoring work, leading that it is not easy to make them, and three, data and procedures to carry them out. The instrumental checking part of the dissertation, this set of real and sometimes insurmountable difficulties led to the search for an alternative and complementary procedure based on knowledge of constructive solutions through analysis and synthesis of information from the historical documentation, which has been on of the most original contributions of the thesis; highlight the reserch process done by the architects in the period studied, in determining this new materiality, and therefore those aspects that we are called significant-moral. This commitment goes trough a influences, internationally and in particular in the Subirana’s case from Germany, which have been extensively detailed to the conclusion that the materiality of the works of the modern movement in Barcelona are indebted. Therefore, this thesis provides objective data on monitoring and objective data on the documents of the time, and for that, so that interventions take into account these values, that are coordinated with other values, but always respecting the documentary value and that have significant whether in themselves. In the other hand. records from the original materiality have to be transmitted to understand the possible technical reproduction and therefore, understanding the transmission of technology and technology architecture whic was in transition. Hence, it seems appropriate to clarify that this approach responds to the aim of what we established as its main objective, which raised the need to go deep into the knowledge of building solutions by providing specific data to enhance the qualitative and quantitative the envelope of buildings of the modern movement, and in particular, to contextualize a framework to the intervention in the buildings of the period 1929-1936. One of the difficulties posed by these interventions goes to adapt the performance of these buildings, designed from the perspective of his time, the performance required today after several decades. Just at this period, the applicable securities haven been experiencing significant increases, and all the requeriments of energy saving are those that have come to increases of more than significant values for multiple reasons, as is well knowed. AlI these buildings have a higher difficulty regarding this change.
