During the twentieth century buildings that provide civic infrastructure, together with housing, were profoundly transformed. Public facilities and new programmes require new spaces. Education, health and social centres, administrative areas and spaces for religion adopted the language of modernity, as did commerce, leisure, transportation and tourism.
The register covering social facilities is the largest of the ones prepared by Iberian DOCOMOMO. Because it is so big, covering more than 600 works, it was prepared in two phases. The first one covers new uses and new programmes: public administration, education, health, social services, public spaces, monuments and commemorative buildings, religious buildings. The second deals with spaces for commerce, leisure, transportation and tourism.

This Register is published in two volumes, one including new uses and new programmes, and the other spaces for commerce, leisure, transportation and tourism, in 2010 and 2011.
