Manuel Briñas Coronado
Madrid, 1942-
Manuel Briñas Colorado graduated as an architect in 1968 at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid.
From 1966 to 1969 he was a professor of the subjects of Projects, Design and Construction at Institución de Artes Decorativas IADE-INSEA UNESCO and, in 1969, he began his professional work in Badajoz, which he carried out until 1977, first as a Architectresponsible for Schools of the Ministry of Education and Science in Badajoz, and Municipal Architect of the Villanueva de la Serena City Council and, from 1972, as Chief Architect of the Dirección Provincial del Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science) in Badajoz.
The five works included in the Iberian Docomomo Records fall within this period: the Complejo Parroquial de San Fernando (San Fernando Parish Complex), the Parroquia de San José (San José Parish) and the housing blocks on Juan Pereda Avenue and Ronda del Pilar, all of them in Badajoz, and the Tourist Village in Orellana la Vieja, National Award for Projects for Tourist Hotel Establishments, in the 1973 National Competition.
In 1977, he decided to move to Madrid, remaining as Chief Architect of the Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science in Madrid until 1999, and as Chief Architect of the Provincial Directorate of Madrid, since 1980.
Civil Servant of the Scale of Architects of the Board of Constructions, Facilities and School Equipment of the Ministry of Education and Science since 1979, he is appointed Chief Architect of the Projects and Works Service of the Ministry of Education of Madrid until his retirement in 2012.
As Architect of the Ministry of Education and Science in Badajoz and the Province, he carries out numerous projects and construction management in schools, institutes, professional training centers, sports facilities, teachers’ homes and university centers, such as the Faculty of Medicine in Badajoz.
In Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz), as Municipal Architect he carries out various projects and direction of works such as the Parque-José Antonio, Plaza-Jardín in the Historic Center (currently disappeared), and a Municipal Sports Complex.
In Badajoz, he was President of the College of Architects, as well as Technical-Artistic Advisor on the Monuments Information Commission of the Badajoz City Council between 1975 and 1977.
He shared a private studio with the Architect Daniel Calero González from 1969 to 1977, carrying out numerous projects together in Badajoz and the Province of collective housing blocks ─on Juan Sebastián Elcano street, Plaza de Alféreces Provisionales, Cienfuegos building, Colón building, EL Pilar building (in Badajoz)─, single-family homes, sports, industrial, hotel facilities, administrative buildings ─Labor Mutualities Building─ and commercial buildings ─transfer of the Plaza Alta Market to the University Campus, the La Picuriña nursery, etc., both in Badajoz─.
In the period from 1977 to 2012, in Madrid and Province as Architect of the Ministry of Education and Science, he developed his activity in numerous projects and direction of works in educational centers of all educational levels, universities, sports facilities, Artistic Education, such as La Royal Higher School of Dramatic Art (Madrid) in 1993, or the Teachers’ Center and Language School in San Lorenzo de EL Escorial in 2006.
He built a residential building in Arturo Soria and an Art Gallery on Jorge Juan Street in Madrid.
