DOCOMOMO was founded with the purpose of studying and documenting the architecture of the Modern Movement, so that it can be recognised as part of our twentieth century culture, protected as heritage and conserved. One of the main projects of the Iberian DOCOMOMO has been defining and documenting this heritage.
This work has led DOCOMOMO to make records of about 1,200 works in Spain and Portugal in a general list, and classify them in three registers — industry, housing and social facilities. The work of documentation has been possible thanks to constant support by the Patrons of Iberian DOCOMOMO.
A Technical Commission, made up of experts from all parts of the Iberian Peninsula, completed the Register and documented it. This body was responsible for defining criteria and methodology for the work, proposing and selecting works and documenting each one in an extensive record according to the model produced by DOCOMOMO International.
The records cover the study period from 1925 to 1965.
