IV Iberian Docomomo Congress

III Seminario DocomomoIn November 2003 the Iberian DOCOMOMO Foundation held its fourth congress in Valencia with the title "Modern architecture and tourism: 1925 – 1965", with scientific co-ordination by Nuno Portas, Carmen Jordá and José Antonio Sosa.

This seminar revolved around the Modern Movement architecture of tourism and leisure that developed in Spain and Portugal between 1925 and 1965.

Therefore the congress dealt with an early chapter in the development of modern society and an important trial run for Modern Movement architecture and planning. Tourist infrastructure (holiday camps and clubs, holiday houses, hotels, spas, ski resorts, camp sites and holiday developments), sports facilities linked to holidays, promenades, and places for entertainment and relaxing were developed as new collective spaces.

The congress was organised in the following sessions: “Architecture for tourism: the first modernity and spaces for leisure”, “Architecture for tourism: interferences”, “Architecture for tourism: colonisation of the territory” and “Architecture for tourism: the landscape and its transformation”.

Presentations and other communications were published with the title:
