I Iberian Docomomo Seminar

Segundo Seminario DocomomoOn 13, 14 and 15 November 1997 the first seminar was held in Zaragoza with the title "MODERN HOUSING AND THE CONTEMPORARY CITY, breaks and continuity. 1925–1965” and the scientific co-ordination was by Víctor Pérez Escolano, Carlos Sambricio and Ignasi de Solà-Morales. The theme of this first seminar was housing of the Modern Movement.

Publication of the register focused attention on particular kinds of architecture and allowed people to reflect on them critically. The aim of the seminar was not to highlight certain people who had developed the architecture of the Modern Movement in Iberia, but to pick out a theoretical discussion centred on housing, with reference to a particular period and agreed geographical limits. This topic was where the new architecture had its main impact and was an important area of production.

The seminar developed around three main sections: "Housing and city" led by Víctor Pérez Escolano, "Housing and public space" led by Ignasi de Solà-Morales and "Housing" led by Carlos Sambricio. They focused on the breaks and continuities that characterised the period in question, thus regenerating debate about the architecture of the Modern Movement and opening up the discussion to historians, journalists, economists and people from the arts. Each topic that was analysed at the seminar was developed around one main presentation and four interventions, two of which were invited and two accepted from proposals received. A fourth session looked at the topic from a Latin American perspective: "Latin America — Housing and city/Housing and public space/Housing".
